January 13th: Simple Awareness
Uncover the myths of meditation and learn mindfulness techniques to connect to our senses and befriend our bodies. Develop a deeper sense of self-awareness to recognize body cues and listen to physical symptoms.
January 20th: Attention and the Brain
Learn the science behind meditation, how it affects the grey matter of the brain and its amazing capability of rewiring itself. We will focus not just on how to practice sitting meditation and body scans, but how to process the discomfort that often comes with a new meditation practice.
January 27th: Dealing with Thoughts: Responding Vs. Reacting
Understand the stress response on a deeper level. We will discuss how to use stress and normal life stressors we experience. Introduction to two additional MBSR exercises that will help you learn to respond rather than react.
February 3rd: Dealing with Difficult Emotions & Physical Pain
Learn how to respond to physical or emotional pain rather than react to it. Develop an effective practice using MBSR 5 Step Model.
February 10th: Communication & Compassion
Understand the difference between Compassion vs. Self-Compassion. Learn how to deal with conflict and anger through the art of being heard and the art of listening.
February 24th (Skipping February 17th for Presidents Day Holiday): Gratitude & Conclusions
Spend time processing and committing to how to successfully implement MBSR into daily life. Amanda will provide specific suggestions for daily practice along with assessing progress and changes noticed through the 6 weeks of this course.
